I will properly blog this next week, but I wanted to share the photo before the day was done. It’s a devils food cake Death Star. This photos was taken as I finished the final spraying, surrounded by colleagues taking photos on their iPhones – this is one kindly donated by Miss R, who incidentally writes a splendid health and beauty blog, H2TBeauty.
The cake is a prize in a raffle being held today and tonight at The Flying Duck in Glasgow. It’s in aid of the MS Society, and arranged by Laurie of Too Much TV. If you can’t make it along – as so many of you won’t be able to! – there is information about making a donation to the cause here (though you won’t have the chance to win a Death Star cake): http://www.mssociety.org.uk/get-involved/donate
UPDATE: You can now donate directly to Laurie at http://www.justgiving.com/Laurie-Cowan. Recently I’ve been getting 100 hits a day; if everyone gave £1 to MS Society Laurie would be half way to her target. Just sayin.
May the Force be with you, and if you’re coming to the Flying Duck later I’ll see you there.

Unbelievable!

Aw thanks Sharyn! Everyone has been really complimentary, it’s lovely.

That’s some cake and should garner quite a few raffle tickets for a worthy cause. Good luck!
May 5th, 2012 at 10:21 AM
The raffle raised over £300! But really that was down to Laurie and her charm – still, I hope there are some happy people having cake for breakfast today.

Thank you Celi, it was a great night. We got dressed up like Jedis and danced until not-quite-dawn
May 5th, 2012 at 5:21 PM
this is bloody marvellous… all hail Captain Carol Anne… master death star cake maker… Yoda next??
May 5th, 2012 at 5:36 PM
Maybe one day! It’s still a bit rough round the edges, I need practise at fancy cake decorating like this. Poor Yoda would probably not come out of my kitchen looking too great

I’m just shocked.. I’ve never seen such a cool cake and would have loved to make one of these for my son when he was younger! Heck, I’d make it now! I’m looking forward to seeing your post and hope you make tons of money for your cause!!
May 7th, 2012 at 10:54 AM
It appeals to adults and kids alike, the Death Star – I wouldn’t rule out making another one at some point, but less rough round the edges and maybe with more fine detail. The raffle raised over £300!
May 7th, 2012 at 2:25 AM
Wow that looks so cool. Quite an achievement!
May 7th, 2012 at 10:55 AM
Thank you – I hadn’t really thought of it as an achievement but I guess it is. It’s hard to see the bigger picture sometimes when you’ve been working up close on something
May 7th, 2012 at 2:59 AM
Wow…I just don’t know what else to say. That is some cake…hats off to you and glad you had fun!
May 7th, 2012 at 10:56 AM
Thanks Betsy, the night out was great fun and even making the cake was mostly fun, with moments of ‘what am I doing?!’
May 7th, 2012 at 7:17 PM
Oh My Gah my kid would kill for this cake. We have Star Wars legos, Star Wars t-shirts, they give me all sorts of useless Star Wars facts… but they never knew anyone was so clever as to make a DEATH STAR CAKE!!! Wowser!
May 7th, 2012 at 8:08 PM
Ha – maybe you’d better not tell them! Either that or look out for the post on Wednesday that explains more how I did it and surprise someone on their next birthay
May 9th, 2012 at 10:32 PM
Oh my gosh. My dad was such a fan. He would have loved this.
May 9th, 2012 at 11:11 PM
I’m glad it could bring some fond memores for you x
May 10th, 2012 at 3:43 PM
